I've seen several sq/round combos with the same knurl. I believe this one is a transition to the sq corner base with a round cap. They have an aluminum wedge, but no key way. 4th gens 1986-88ĥth generation dk stems are engraved, but the fine knurl only goes about 1/4 up the shaft from the wedge. They have an aluminum wedge, but they drop the key way. 3rd gens 1983-85Ĥth generation dk stems are engraved, they still have the fine knurl that goes about 3/4 up the shaft from the wedge. They have a key way on the bar side of the quill, and a aluminum wedge. 2nd gens 1980-82ģrd generation dk stems are engraved, They now have a finer knurl that goes about 3/4 up the shaft from the wedge. And 2nd gens introduced the world to the aluminum wedge. They have a key way on the bar side of the base. They still have a very coarse knurl that goes about 3/4 up the shaft from the wedge. ![]() 1st gens 1979Ģnd generation dk stems, are engraved. I'm unable to verify 100%, but I have read in threads in the past, that the 1st gens also had a steel wedge, not aluminum. I'm not sure if it has a key way, but I think it does. The Quill has a very coarse knurl that goes about 3/4 up the shaft from the wedge. 1st generation dk stems, DO NOT have a dk engraving on the top cap.
